Loam

Loam is a textural classification. Texture refers to the relative amount of sand, silt, and clay in a soil. Loam is technically a soil with varying amounts of clay, silt and sand. A loamy soil is one that combines sand, silt, and clay. Loam is ideal for most garden plants because it holds plenty of moisture but also drains well so that sufficient air can reach the roots.
