Stone
Crushed Stone
Crushed stone or angular rock is a form of construction aggregate, typically produced by mining a suitable rock deposit. The rock deposit is then broken down to the desired size using crushers. It is distinct from gravel which is produced by natural processes of weathering and erosion, and typically has a more rounded shape.
Bluestone
Bluestone is the most common type of gravel found in the majority of applications. It is available in several sifted sizes for different applications. Standard sizes include finely-crushed rock known as rock dust or stone dust, 3/8 inch, 5/8 inch, 3/4 inch, 1 1/2 inch and 2 2/1 inch stone.
Stone Dust
Patio stones should be installed on a good base to prevent movement. That base is covered by a layer of very fine pulverized limestone called stone dust. The object is to have material underneath the patio stones that drains well. In order to create a smooth surface, the stone must get finer near the top. The finest layer is stone dust.
